About Eddie – the mascot of Iron Maiden:
Eddie, also known as Eddie the Head, is the legendary mascot of the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden and a constant part of their visual identity since their first album. He appears on all album covers, singles, posters, t-shirts, and other band merchandise. Eddie is also the main character in the video game Ed Hunter, the RPG game Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, and in the 2018 pinball machine.

The character originated from a paper mask used on the band's stage sets in the early days, with the original mask being named "The Head", which in the London accent of the band members sounded like "Ead" – hence the name Eddie. In 1992, the band opened up the possibility for other artists to contribute to updating Eddie for the 90s. The chosen artist was English illustrator Melvyn Grant, who drew Eddie for the cover of the album Fear of the Dark. Eddie became not only a mascot but also an icon of the heavy metal culture, known worldwide, and his image is carefully maintained in all artistic and merchandising projects of the band.
